Effect of seed treatments on seed longevity. Paper presented at 22nd Annual Meeting Amer. Phytopath. Soc., Cleveland, Ohio. Dec. 1930-Jan. 1931

Effect of seed treatments on seed longevity. Paper presented at 22nd Annual Meeting Amer. Phytopath. Soc., Cleveland, Ohio. Dec. 1930-Jan. 1931

Phytopathology 21: 105

Results from six years' experiments with many kinds of seed show that this fear is well founded. Recommended treatments with (1) mercuric chloride, (2) liquid organic mercurials, and (3) hot water have greatly shortened the life of the seed, even when they caused no immediately apparent injury. The dust treatments usually had no injurious after-effects. Experimental work shows that much can be done to reduce or eliminate the harmful after-effects of seed treatment.
