Food and food mastication as external environmental factors in the causation and prevention of dental caries

Dent. Cosmos. 78: 814-822

The normal chewing pressures and maximum biting pressures exerted by 50 male and 50 female subjects having full complements of fairly sound teeth were measured with a special type of dynamometer. The values obtained varied from 5-30 kg. and 15-6O kg. respectively, there being direct relationship between the values in most cases.
