Abstract
The author describes the utility of Ornithopus sativus as a fodder and green manure plant, especially on light sandy soil. It represents to a certain extent "the red clover of light soils", and flourishes on land which will not grow other fodder crops, but is averse to lime, sour soils, heavy loam and clay, and also wet ground with a deep water table, although a moist climate suits it and it does not require much warmth. It should never follow red clover.
