Growth of guinea-pigs on an adequate mixed diet, with special reference to litter size

Growth of guinea-pigs on an adequate mixed diet, with special reference to litter size

Arch. f. Tierernahrung u. Tiersucht. 7: 328-345

Increase in weight of guineapigs depends on litter size. When there is only 1 young one the rate of growth and initial weight is highest (average 115 g.). Initial weight is doubled in 16 days, trebled in 25 days. Twins and triplets show a slower, or less uniform rate of growth. Twins double their weight in 17 days, triplets in 21 days. Both treble it in about 35 days. With 4 at a birth initial weight is lowest. Some grow at a rate comparable with that of twins and triplets.
