The area surveyed was a middle sized, absentee owned sugar cane plantation situated in the South East of Puerto Rico. Vol. 7, No. 2 The exhaustive information presented on health, social and economic conditions includes data on nutrition and deficiency diseases. The staple food of the peasants consists of vegetables and codfish for lunch, and rice and beans for dinner. The vegetables include plantains, green bananas, sweet potatoes, dasheens and yams.
