Histochemical Studies on Tissue Enzymes: III. A Study of the Distribution of Acid Phosphatases with Special Reference to the Nervous System



American Journal of Pathology 19(3): 423-440



The authors examined various normal and neoplastic tissues in man for the presence of acid phosphatase, using a modification of Gomori's histochemical method. Large amounts of acid phosphatase were found in the nervous system, male and female genital organs, and parts of the digestive, haemopoietic, urinary and endocrine systems. The enzyme was in greatest concentration in nuclei and it is suggested that it may play a part in nuclear metabolism.
