Hybrids between the Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) and the sunflower (H. annuus L.)

Hybrids between the Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) and the sunflower (H. annuus L.)

C.R.(Doklady) Acad. Sci. U.R.S.S 2: 193-96

Crosses have been made between the most valuable agricultural forms of H. annuus (2n = 34) and of H. tuberosus and H. macrophyllus, both with 2n = 102. Eighteen plants were obtained from the cross H. tuberosus x H. annuus in 1935 and of these, fourteen were undoubted hybrids. One natural hybrid was also obtained. The hybrids were in most characters intermediate between the parents, though there was a greater resemblance to the female than the male parent.
