The sugar content of the F3 hybrids of sugar beet x B. vulgaris sp. maritima L. varied from 95.7 to 102.1% of the standard. Some of them showed exceptionally high combinations of yield with high sugar content and low noxious nitrogen (75-76% of the standard). They are also unusually tolerant of brackish soil conditions.
