International sheep breeds. The evolution of sheep and wool. (Sixth edition.) Sheep raising in Algeria. Sheep breeds of Tunisia

Calif. Wool Gr, 20: 44, 10-15; 18-23

IN the south of Algeria is a hairy, hornless, long-legged dairy breed nicknamed the " Southern goat." In the east is the fat-tailed Barbarin. In the department of Oran is found the Tiaret variety of the Berber breed-thin-tailed and good producers of wool and meat. The Chelalla Berber of Algiers probably contains some Barbarin blood. The dominant breed in Tunisia is the Barbarin. Sicilian sheep have been imported and the fat-tailed breed has been crossed with Merinos.
