Investigations into the method of estimating vitamin E. 1. The influence of vitamin E deficiency on implantation

Observations are recorded on the biological estimation of vitamin E. Records of 420 animals showed only 8 failures in resorption after a first successful mating on a diet deficient in vitamin E. In rats which had experienced one resorption gestation greater difficulty was subsequently experienced in obtaining successful implantation than in virgin rats. While this difference was possibly due to the longer period of deprivation it is also suggested that the process of undergoing resorption gestation might have affected the reproductive processes in some adverse manner. The addition of vitamin E to the diet of virgin rats or ones which had experienced a resorption had no significant effect on implantation. Failure to ovulate was rare, and no differences were apparent in frequency of failure to mate between the two categories.
