Investigations on sugar-cane and sugar-cane soils in Antigua. 1. Preliminary results of the new experimental scheme

Study is made on the possibility of using grass from waste areas as a soil cover for sugar cane during the dry season. Large areas in Antigua of saline clay-tuff soils are unsuitable for sugar cane and are abandoned to grass. An experiment is in progress on this type of soil to determine whether the yield of grass can be economically increased. The dominant grass is Andropogon nodosus which is relished by stock.
