Feeding experiments with rats indicated that when fluid chocolate milk contained more than 1 per cent, cocoa the rate of consumption of the milk and rate of growth of the rats decreased as the percentage of cocoa increased. The same held good for whole milk powder, the addition of 4 per cent, cocoa definitely retarding growth. With rats on a 7 or 10 per cent, cocoa milk diet, the faeces in the intestinal tract were very hard and there was marked accumulation of food material in the caeca.
