On rye and wheat breeding and the results of the agricultural research station's department for plant breeding

Rye. Toivo rye is one of the station's products and was put on the market in 1931 (see " Plant Breeding Abstracts, " Vol. III, Abst. 207). A cross between Stjarn and a Finnish land rye has given strains which it is hoped will be an improvement on Toivo with regard to winterhardiness, straw strength and hectolitre weight. Toivo rye is also proving a valuable parent in breeding work. Other objectives in the breeding programme are briefly mentioned. II. Winter wheat.
