has extended the work described by STRODTHOFF who considered that the occurrence of outbreaks of F. & M. disease in the first 14 days after vaccination was due to infection from outside sources and not to the presence of live virus in the vaccine. In the summer, autumn and winter of 1938, nearly 550, 000 animals in 86, 832 herds were vaccinated in the control of an outbreak in East Prussia, by immunizing the herds surrounding each newly infected area.
