Somatic and biochemical changes in chronic alcoholics. 3. Protein metabolism of chronic alcoholics

Somatic and biochemical changes in chronic alcoholics. 3. Protein metabolism of chronic alcoholics

Acta med. scand, 81: 1-13

The total N in the urine of 34 cases of chronic alcoholism was found to be increased but the amino-acid and ammonia excretion was within normal limits. With one exception the urinary excretion of these bodies after 20 g. peptone was subnormal, suggesting some anomaly either of excretion or assimila tion of protein. Water tended to be retained by the body in chronic alcoholism. W. J.
