Some Observations on the Prevalence of Malaria in Nanking and its Vicinity

Some Observations on the Prevalence of Malaria in Nanking and its Vicinity

Chin. med. J, Peiping, 48: 2, 109-123

In a survey conducted in districts near Nanking in 1932, 47 per cent. of nearly 7, 000 persons examined had a malaria history and 6 per cent. showed parasites in their blood. Plasmodium vivax was the prevalent parasite, except in September, just after the heavy rains, when P. falciparum was predominant. The percentage of infection due to P. malariae rose from 2 in September to 28 in November. The only Anopheline found was Anopheles hyrcanus var. sinensis, Wied.
