Mineral constituents of soil can be placed in three types: (1) those of which the amount diminishes as the grain-size decreases (quartz); (2) those having a maximum value at some one value of grain-size (felspar, plagioclase); (3) those of which the amount increases as grain-size decreases (lamellar components, mica, etc.).
