Differences of opinion in regard to the details of technique in budding deciduous fruit are worldwide. Some of these are discussed in the light of S. African experience and experiment. T versus inverted T in shield budding. Experiments at Stellenbosch in 1936 with maiden pears showed no differences in take or grade of tree.
