The chromosome complexes in goat (Capra hircus) and sheep (Ovis aries) and their relationship. (Chromosome studies in domestic mammals, II)
Cytologia. Tokyo 13: 39-54
AN examination was made of testicular material from 2 breeds of goat (Saanen and Amami-Osima) and 3 breeds of sheep (Karakul, Corriedale, and Merino). No breed differences in chromosome number or structure were appreciable in either species. In the goat the haploid number is 30 (2n = 60). There are 29 homologous pairs of rod-shaped, telomitic autosomes, a large x chromosome with characteristic tripartite structure showing 2 constrictions, and a minute Y chromosome.
