The cuticle in some pteridophytes, gymnosperms and monocotyledons

Ber. dtsch. bot. Ges 55: 437-64

Gramineae. Phmgmites communis exhibits a thin cuticle sharply separated from the cellulose substratum. In certain special cells of the epidermis, protruding like humps from the leaf surface, there lies under the cuticle a cutinized layer, several times thicker, which in the cross section is horseshoe-shaped and with its ends penetrates to approximately one-half or still somewhat further into the side walls of these special cells.
