The experiments show that when Lolium perenne is grown in a sand-bentonite medium of pH 7.61 and supplied with different forms of nitrogen there is a more rapid and greater uptake of ammonium than of nitrate nitrogen. Age of the grass affects the extent to which the increase in uptake with added ammonia is reflected in increased yields.
