Abstract
A comprehensive investigation into the diets of mine labourers was made. Usually the standard was above the Government minimum ration scale. The articles of diet and costs differed greatly from mine to mine. Waste was common. An attempt was made to institute a standard diet for all these mines, based on the Government scale but with additional meat, fat and vegetables. A chart showing daily food variations and weekly costs is given.
