The relationship between chlorosis of macadamia seedlings and certain chemical constituents of macadamia seeds

Seeds from 22 accessions of macadamia (Macadamia ternijolia var. integrifolia) were planted in sand cultures and the degree of chlorosis of the seedlings was evaluated numerically by a method which is given. Certain chemical constituents of the seeds also were estimated. A statistical analysis of these data shows that when Fe, Mn, and P are considered, if the Mn and P contents of the seeds are adjusted to their respective averages, only Fe is associated significantly with the expression of chlorosis by macadamia seedlings. Seeds with a low Fe content grow into seedlings which are chlorotic to a greater degree than those from seeds with a relatively high Fe content.
