Abstract
THE study is based on herd book records of over 5000 cows, 2000 bulls, and 22, 000 calves. Among the results of this comprehensive investigation the following may be mentioned. The average period of keeping a bull is 3 years, 3 months and 7 days, but 70% of the bulls are slaughtered before their genetic value as sires can be established by the performance of their offspring. The reproductive life of a bull lasts on the average 4 years 1 1/2 months; the highest age attained was 12 years.
