The variation of the length of the vegetative period in various tobacco varieties in relation to the growth at different day lengths

The claims (V. Kosmodemjanskii, 1934) as to the efficacy of a 7-day presowing treatment of germinating tobacco seed in darkness were not substantiated in the author's test, no suggestive changes in chemical composition being recorded. In subsequent experiments, the author made use of the photoperiodic response of various species and varieties by growing them in various photoperiods for the first 45 to 50 days after the appearance of seedlings.
