The purposes of the cross were to incorporate greater disease resistance into a shallot type plant and to study meiosis in the hybrid and back crosses. The cytological findings are reported in this paper. The parents each form 8 bivalents at meiosis. In the F1 there were numerous meiotic irregularities including multivalent association and lack of pairing. The chiasmata were random and fewer than in either parent. There were 6 to 11 chromosomes in the microspores.
