Assessing the sterility of milk bottles by the roll-tube method

Five washed milk bottles were rinsed successively with the same rinse and the bacterial count determined by the roll-tube method. The average count per bottle was not significantly different from that when individual or cumulative rinses were incubated on Petri plates. When the bottles were not satisfactorily washed (mean bottle count >200) individual bottles were examined.
