Abstract
Studies on growth in relation to types of pasture and management, similar to those undertaken in South Australia, are in progress in Tasmania. Shorthorn-Devon cross steers are being used. Conditions on the 2 properties carrying the herd from which the experimental animals were selected are described in detail. Growth rates of 2 groups of steers studied so far were satisfactory. The New Zealand chilled beef method of carcass appraisal used in the evaluation of carcasses is discussed. G. E.
