Buckwheat (Fagopyrum escuhntum) is a useful catch crop and can replace mealie meal in the fattening ration of pigs. Samples analysed had the following average percentage composition: dry matter 88.2, crude protein 9.9, fat 2.4, crude fibre 13.8, N-free extract 60.2, ash 1.9.
