Comparative digestibilities by steers of rations containing distillers dark grains from malt and from fungal amylase fermentations

The second type of distiller's dark grains was made by the use of a high amylase-producing strain of Aspergillus niger and was similar in crude composition to the grains obtained in the ordinary malt process. When it was used to replace the malt grams, weight for weight, in a mixed ration for bullocks, in which the grains provided about 16. 5 per cent. of the total protein, there was no significant change in the digestibility of the ration as a whole or of any of its proximate constituents.
