In extension of earlier work (Abst. 4836, Vol. 20; 4204, Vol. 21), leaves from different species were collected when just about to fall or were picked up off the ground, and twigs from this time on into January. In general, autumn leaves were much poorer in composition, lower in protein content and higher in fibre than summer green leaves, although the leaves of 2 or 3 species, collected before browning had occurred, more closely resembled summer green leaves in composition.
