Contribution to the study of Mediterranean soils. The brown soils of Maures (Var.).

Contribution to the study of Mediterranean soils. The brown soils of Maures (Var.).

Ann. Agron 17: 5-10

In the southern region of Maures the parent material consists of sand derived mostly from phyllades, gneiss and mica schist. The mean annual rainfall is 800 mm. Vegetation comprises evergreen oak forest with a dense shrub layer of Arbutus unedo and Erica arborea. In the profiles examined a 3-4 cm. layer of spongy humus overlies 25-30 cm. of brown soil. The B horizon is redder, more clayey and ferruginous.
