In a factorial pot experiment on tomato, 3 rates of nickel sulfate per pot, and 2 rates of phosphate fertilizer each labelled with 3 levels of P32 were applied to the soil; analysis was made on two harvests. The first effect of the Ni treatments was the appearance of chlorosis of the young leaves, followed by severe necrosis of the stems, petioles and leaves and distortion of the plants. Total and fertilizer P contents were much reduced by the treatment.
