Diseases of Coffee in Surinam

Diseases of Coffee in Surinam

Surinaam. Landb 3: 297-305

The Surinam coffee crop covers an area of some 1, 800 ha. and is a valuable export; 95 per cent. is Coffea liberica, with a few beds or isolated fields of C. cane-phora, C. robusta, C. abeocuta, and interspecific crosses. In general, diseases are comparatively unimportant. During the last 50 years the heaviest losses have been caused by Ophiostoma coffeae, which may destroy a tree in a few days, leaving the wilted leaves hanging.
