Five years' trials have given the following results: The treatment formerly used against loose smut was to soak the seed grain 3 hours in cold water, thereafter letting the bags stand 7 hours for dripping before soaking them for 5 to 10 minutes in hot water holding 51-52 degrees C. This treatment was varied in different ways, but did not prove efficient for controlling loose smut of spring wheat and barley.
