Trials were carried out in Ankara with Swedish, German, Spanish and English varieties of brewing barley. Yields, physical attributes and chemical composition were determined and compared with a local variety Tobak 157/37. When sown in spring, the foreign varieties lost their brewing qualities, because they had a high protein- and low starch-content. When sown in winter, results were much more favourable.
