Germinacao de sementes de camomila e calendula (Calendula officinalis L.) tratadas com acido salicilico

The germination process is affected by several factors, including the physical and biochemical integrity of the seeds and their physiological status. Few studies were accomplished aiming at the achievement of the knowledge about the salicylic acid function in relation to seed quality. The exogenous application of salicylic acid is used to minimize stress effects by its action such as an inducer of tolerance proteins. The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of increasing concentrations of salicylic acid on seed germination of chamomile and marigold. Chamomile seeds were treated with salicylic acid concentrations at zero; 0.025; 0.05 and 0.1 mM (Experiment 1) and with the concentrations at zero: 0.05; 0.1 and 0.2 mM (Experiment 2) been germinated in alternate temperature (20-30 degrees C) and with 8 hours of light at the higher temperature. Marigold seeds were germinated at zero; 0.025; 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 mM with alternate temperatures (20-25 degrees C) and with 8 hours of light at the highest temperature. Seeds were evaluated by the germination percentage, first germination count, and index of emergency rate. The results showed that salicylic acid at 0.2 mM has a negative effect on chamomile seeds germination. However, concentrations of 0.025 and 0.05 mM improve the germination and index of emergency rate in the seeds of calendula.
