The establishment of artificial pastures is possible with irrigation on vlei turf or sandy loams. The seeds mixtures recommended per morgen is 2 lb. each of Ladino or white wild clover, Alsike clover and Chilian red clover; 9 lb. each of Akaroa cocksfoot and Kentucky 31 Fescue. This should be sown in early autumn after lime and rock phosphate have been ploughed into the soil. From such a pasture 5503 sheep- and 380 cattle-grazing days are obtainable per morgen in 3 months.
