In an extension of a previous experiment mainly concerned with blood composition, 9 of 18 cows were given capsules containing 5 million units of vitamin D daily for 2 weeks before and 3 days after calving. No consistent differences in colostrum composition were observed as a result of this treatment which did not reduce the milk fever incidence.
