Monocotyly in the light of embryological data

Monocotyly in the light of embryological data

Sovet. Bot, 14: 351-63

The differentiation of monocotyledons from dicotyledons begins in the stage immediately preceding the development of the embryo proper. One of two protuberances, which would become cotyledons in dicotyledonous plants, changes position in the course of cell division, thus imparting a mono-cotyledonous character to the developing embryo.
