Morphological and histological studies on cattle hide and leather. VI. Histological effects of bull castration on the hide and leather.

Morphological and histological studies on cattle hide and leather. VI. Histological effects of bull castration on the hide and leather.

Jap. J. zootech. Sci, 22: 66-69

VI. Hide and leather samples from 17 locations on the bodies of 2 Japanese calves castrated at 9-10 mths. were compared histologically with similar samples from 2 normal bull calves. No significant difference was observed in the hide as a result of castration, except that the hide of castrates had a thinner epidermis and corium than that of whole animals, and the sweat glands on the forehead, neck, shoulder and foreleg were a little more developed.
