Observations on the life-cycle of Schistosoma mansoni in the laboratory, with a discussion on the snail vectors of S. mansoni and S. haematobium

Observations on the life-cycle of Schistosoma mansoni in the laboratory, with a discussion on the snail vectors of S. mansoni and S. haematobium

Ann Trop Med And Parasitol 41(2): 173-177

Cercariae of 5. mansoni were obtained from Planorbis boissyi of Egyptian stock 71/2 weeks after exposure to miracidia from an Uganda strain. Cercariae were also obtained from Australorbis glabratus of tropical American stock. Bulinus truncatus snails raised in the laboratory from Egyptian stock were non-attractive to miracida from a West African strain of S. haematobium.
