Parthenocarpy in tomatoes induced by para-chlorophenoxyacetic acid applied to several loci

Parthenocarpy in tomatoes induced by para-chlorophenoxyacetic acid applied to several loci

Proc. Amer. Soc. hort. Sci 58: 201-7

Para-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (PCA) was applied at 500, 1, 000 and 1, 500 p.p.m. in a lanolin paste to either the stigma, one side of the ovary, the entire stylar end of the ovary or the abscission layer of young flowers of tomatoes. All treatments induced partheno-carpy, fruit set occurring even when the point of application was as much as 41/4 in. from individual flowers.
