Abstract
Automatic self-tying balers are replacing the hand-tying ram-type machines in Britain. The continental press-type baler (costing 500 - 700) is not as efficient as the ram-type with automatic twine tying (costing 500 - 1000, but not yet on the British market). This press-type makes compact bales, (18 x 16 in. in section, length 30-46 in., "runnage" about 225 ft. to the pound). Roll-type roto-balers roll the hay into 36 in. long cylinders wrapped spirally with 30-36 ft. of binder twine.
