Population and distribution of sugar beets and table beets as related to seed production
Proc. Amer. Soc. Sug. Beet Technol, 454-8
Sugar-beet for seed was sown during the 1949-50 season in western Oregon on 3 August in rows, 12, 16, 20 and 24 in. apart, with the stands unthinned, and thinned to 3 and 6 in. spacing in the row. The stands were irrigated. Seed yields varied from 3600-3900 lb. per ac., the differences in no case being significant. Highest mean seed yields were obtained from rows spaced 16 in. apart, while the highest individual seed yields came from rows spaced 24 in. apart, with the stands unthinned.
