More than 25 new rice varieties have been selected at the USSR Rice Station in recent years including two very early varieties with growth periods of 100-110 days and 118-120 days. In field trials these varieties surpassed the variety Kendzo by 30 to 60% in yield. The need is pointed out for varieties which do well on non-irrigated fields. Mention is made of the following varieties which are moderate in their moisture requirements; Belyi SKOMS, LKVP and Zolotye Vshody.
