Abstract
Cryptoxanthin prepared from the persimmon, Diospyros kaki, was isomerised by catalysis with iodine and exposure to visible light. Neo-cryptoxanthin A, separated by chromatography, was found in biological tests to have 42 per cent. of the activity of all-trans- beta -carotene. This activity corresponded to 71 per cent. of that of cryptoxanthin which, according to previous workers, has 58 per cent. of the activity of beta -carotene. T. Moore.
