The difficulties inherent in chemical methods of estimating choline in biological materials are discussed. A method is described in which choline was liberated from animal or plant tissues by treatment with HN03 and then, estimated by formation of a periodate by reaction with a mixture of iodine and KI. The iodine of the periodate was titrated with thiosulphate for amounts of 1 to 2 mg. choline.
