In the current series of studies at the Federal Institute for the Mechanical and Chemical Assay of Materials, Berlin-Dahlem, on the physical changes consequent on fungal disorganization of beech and pine wood, Coniophora cerebella and Lentinus lepideus caused progressive reduction in dry volume with weight loss of pine. With beech the volumes increased by 4 and 8 per cent. when C. puteana and Polystictus versicolor produced weight losses of 15 and 40 per cent., respectively.
