The effects were investigated of high and low temperature during seed germination, with or without subsequent exposure of the seedlings to short days, on the tillering, plant height, leaf number, date of ear emergence, number of fertile and empty spike-lets, and grain yield per plant of early-maturing (summer) and late-maturing (winter) varieties of rice. The early-maturing varieties Charnock, Panbira, Kataktara and Dhairal and the late-maturing variety Rupsail were used.
